General Privacy Statement

Open Hearts for Orphans is a non-profit organization that uses the internet as a fundamental tool to reaching out to potential donors, people in need of help adopting orphans and couples interested in adoption but would like more information. We take great care to protect your personal information and maintain the highest integrity in keeping with applicable laws, statutes and regulations. Any personal information we ask for will not be sold, rented or given away to any third party. When donating money, please note that we are to keep records of your donation on file for purposes of reporting to the IRS.

The information we collect from users

Visitors who merely browse the Open Hearts website will not have any cookies loaded onto their computer, nor is any personal information required for visiting this website. However, there are the following exceptions:

1. If you donate money online. We use Google Checkout to handle online donations. Please refer to Google's privacy policy, as they do put cookies onto your computer. Furthermore, donating will require you to enter sensitive personal information, including name, address, phone number, and credit card information. The data you enter for the purpose of donating is kept strictly confidential and is transferred over Google's secure servers. In addition, we do keep your donation information on file for the purpose of reporting to the IRS, in keeping with the regulations and laws of being a tax exempt organization.
2. If you create a user account. We will require limited personal information if you decide to create a user account on the Open Hearts website. Cookies will also be used when creating such an account, and will also be used during each login session. However, the cookies are only used to remember information about you for the purposes of making your visiting session quicker and more productive (i.e. so you don't have to keep entering the same information in each time you visit).
3. Signing up for email newsletter or other notifications. In this case, your name and email will be required. However, we do not sell, rent, or give away your information to any third party for marketing, promotional or other purposes that would betray your trust in the Open Hearts for Orphans organization. In cases where you do voluntarily sign up to receive our newsletter and/or other notifications, we will always give you the option to opt-out.
4. Grant applications. While the grant applications are printed out, they still require that you send us very personal information. We take every step necessary to keep these applications 100% confidential and are read on a need-to-know basis by our staff. All applications are kept on record for the number of years required by law. We do not sell, rent or give away any information given to us on the grant applications.
